Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program
The Lummi Nation CERT Program is just beginning and we foresee a future with a strong and involved volunteer community. The citizens of the Lummi Nation have a strong history of taking care of themselves in times of need and catastrophe. The CERT program will provide tools and training to enhance this historical ability to make a great thing even better. The Lummi Nation CERT program has developed a partnership with Whatcom County, state, and federal agencies to help all citizens to prepare for times of disaster.
The CERT Program is going strong in Whatcom County. The training teaches people how to take care of their families and neighbors immediately following a major disaster, when professional emergency responders may be overwhelmed, and unable to quickly reach areas where roads are damaged, flooded, or snowed in. Local CERT graduates provided invaluable assistance during the Whatcom Creek Incident, and the Seattle earthquake.
